Concrete Delivery Professional Garrett Wilkerson of Maschmeyer Concrete in Hudson, FL, earned the top honors at this year’s National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s (NRMCA) National
Mixer Driver Championship held earlier this month in Orlando, FL. The event was held at the Gaylord Palms Resort in conjunction with NRMCA’s ConcreteWorks 2025. Mr. Wilkerson took home the “Mullings Cup” and the champion’s check of $6,000. Mr. Wilkerson (seen at right) has been driving concrete mixers for 11 years and is a two-time, top three finisher in the Florida Concrete & Products Association (FC&PA) rodeo.
The trophy is named after former Executive Vice President of Operations and Compliance Gary Mullings who retired in 2024 after 50 years with NRMCA and played a major role in the formation of the event.
Now in its 19th year, this year’s contest included the largest field of drivers to ever compete, said Executive Vice President of Operations and Compliance Kevin Walgenbach. There were 128 drivers, including state rodeo champions as well as NRMCA member company champions from around the nation who competed to be crowned the Best of the Best. Mr. Wilkerson was selected based on a cumulative score derived from competitions that included stationary and driving challenges, visual vehicle inspection, delivery ticket station and a two -hour written examination. Awards were presented for the top five finishers. The Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (TMMB) was the premiere sponsor of the event and helped sponsor the driver prize money.

Second place and a check for $3,000 went to Cesar Moreno of Deltona, FL. Mr. Moreno has been driving professionally for over 20 years, 13 of which have been for Maschmeyer Concrete. Mr. Morena (seen at left) is also a six-time, top three finisher in both company and state rodeos since 2016.

Third place and a check for $2,000 went to Jason Erickson with Smokey Point Concrete, a CalPortland Company in Arlington, WA. Mr. Erickson (seen at right) has been driving for 12 years. He also placed fifth in 2022 and was the overall National Mixer Driver Championship champion in 2023.

The fourth-place finisher, receiving a check for $1,500, was Jon Sheets with Irving Materials (IMI) of Frankfort, IN. Mr. Sheets (at left) has been driving professionally for 20 years, 11 of which have been for IMI. Mr. Sheets is also a four-time, top three finisher in both company and state rodeos since 2023.

The fifth-place finisher receiving a check for $1,000 was Harvey Harmon (at right) from Tri City Concrete in Shelby, NC. Mr. Harmon has been driving a mixer truck for 20 years, five of which have been for Tri City. Havey has competed in 15 state rodeos, placing in the top four the last 12 years and has competed in 12 NRMCA National Mixer Driver Championships resulting in multiple top five finishes.
Also honored at the driver awards banquet were drivers who distinguished themselves at various stages of the competition. More than 100 drivers were recognized for top performances in the Basketball Chute Hoops and Hockey Slap Shot challenges. There were also numerous drivers this year who made a hole in one at the Golf Challenge station. Medallions were awarded to the nine drivers that managed to impressively make a basket, hockey goal and a hole in one. They were Jess Kampe from Rost Ready Mix, Mark Mange from CalPortland, Luis DeLoera from Dolese Brothers, Dominik Short from Sunrock, Lee Pierce from BMC Enterprises, John Grant from MMC Materials, Jeff Gibbons from Central Carolina Concrete, Leslie Brown from Ernst Concrete and Garrett Wilkerson of Maschmeyer Concrete.
The top scorers of the Closest to the Egg station were Marcus Lowery from Ernst Concrete, Dennis Collier from Advance Ready Mix, Mark Nieciecki from VNCA Prairie Materials and Cesar Moreno of Maschmeyer Concrete. The top scorers at the Delivery Ticket station were Jimmy Loggins from Ernst Concrete, Jason Erickson from Smokey Point Concrete, a CalPortland Company; Rickey Scott from CEMEX, Garrett Lytle from Ozinga, Tom Sawicki from Concrete Supply, Jon Sheets from IMI and Robert Turner from Ernst Concrete.
Drivers were also tested to determine who had the fastest reaction time through computerized testing. The top scorers were Chris Burns from Buckeye Ready Mix, Eric Brashaw from BARD Materials, Josh Nix from Wayne Davis Concrete, Brandon Morris from Farmer Companies and Garrett Wilkerson from Maschmeyer Concrete. The popular Bowling Station returned to the competition for the 12th year. Five drivers stood above the rest: scoring a strike were Michelle Madera with Holliday Rock, Kyle Thompson with Chaney Enterprises, Robert Turner with Ernst Concrete, Richard Knight with Ozinga and Chad Duffield with Silvi Materials. At the Inspection Station, the six drivers earning top marks were Bill Cook with Thomas Concrete, Cesar Moreno and Damion Wynter with Maschmeyer Concrete, Kyle Thompson with Chaney Enterprises and Lemuel Mejia with Concrete Supply. The top scorer overall was Garrett Wilkerson with Maschmeyer Concrete.
This year’s examination utilized iPads for all 128 drivers. Four drivers were recognized for high scores: Bill Cook and Edward Leitch of Thomas Concrete, Josh Heffernan with IMI and Shannon Pruitt from Quikcrete. The title of Smartest Driver in the Room and highest exam score went to Gerald Mundall with CEMEX. Finally, taking the top spot on the Driving Challenge Course was Garrett Wilkerson from Maschmeyer Concrete.
