Course Description
Concrete Durability is a two and a half day course with two days of instruction and a half day for an optional exam. The course covers the fundamental mechanisms that impact durability of concrete. Participants can expect teaching and learning on concrete microstructure, cracking, corrosion mechanisms, freeze-thaw resistance, sulfate resistance, alkali aggregate reactions (AAR), and other durability-related distress. The course will be taught by adjunct faculty at the forefront of current research on the diagnosis of concrete durability.
Course Objectives
- Recognize symptoms and describe methods to evaluate the deterioration of concrete.
- Demonstrate an understanding of causes of durability problems and methods to prevent them.
- Explain test methods for durability and their limitations.
- List code and specifications criteria for durable concrete structures.
