Purpose

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s Commitment To Environmental Excellence Awards competition offers producers national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound management practice in their operations. Now in its 15th year, the program salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment.

Eligibility

Any NRMCA member company producing ready mixed concrete from a fixed plant location in the U.S., its territories or Canada is eligible to enter. Awards will be determined upon individual plant merits; companies may choose to enter plants from any or all of the 5 production volume categories.

In an effort to go “paperless”, all entries must be submitted via email or mailed on a CD. Awards will be presented to plants that have best demonstrated environmental excellence and innovative management. Winning entrants will be honored at the Awards Lunch at NRMCA‘s ConcreteWorks in National Harbor, MD, in September 2012.

Awards

First Place and, where appropriate, Honorable Mention awards will be presented to operators who have best demonstrated environmental excellence and innovative management. Awards will be made in three categories based on the plant’s previous year’s annual production volume. Winning entrants will be honored at an awards presentation ceremony at NRMCA's ConcreteWorks. Winning and Honorable Mention facilities will also be featured in an edition of
Concrete Products magazine.

Judging

Entries will be reviewed by a panel consisting of regulatory officials and industry and environmental consultants. Entries will be judged based on an electronic narrative covering 11 criteria. Judges depend heavily on electronic images of submitted plants to complete their evaluations. Participants are required to submit electronic images that clearly demonstrate environmental systems and processes and at least one image that offers a broad view of the plant site. The 2014 Environmental Excellence Entry Form is posted here:

NRMCA announced the winners of the 2014 Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards at this year’s NRMCA’s ConcreteWorks Conference & Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana. Entries were reviewed by a panel of judges based on a written narrative covering 11 evaluation criteria and photographs. The Environmental Excellence Awards program is co-sponsored by Concrete Products magazine.
