NRMCA Bolsters Nationwide Lineup of Experts to Support Build with Strength Concrete Design Center
Tuesday, December 13, 2016

Silver Spring, MD – December 13, 2016 – The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has added two more building experts to bolster the Build with Strength Concrete Design Center, a nationwide effort to offer technical expertise to developers and design professionals in order to incorporate cutting-edge concrete solutions into their building projects. The experts, Michelle Roberts and Patrick Matsche, have joined the Association’s Structures and Sustainability Division as senior directors, building innovations.

Before joining NRMCA, Ms. Roberts was building science and systems designer and owner of Chatham Hill, a commercial, industrial and residential construction products consulting firm. From 2013-2015, she was managing director of sustainability for General Insulation Company, Inc. and from 2009-2013 she was director of architecture and engineering development for Owens Corning’s Building Materials Group. Ms. Roberts is the founder of the Boston Society of Architects Architecture & Real Estate Roundtable & Building Systems Committees.

She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and also studied residential design at Mt. Ida College’s School of Design in Newton, MA. In May, she received a Research & Applications to Drive Decisions for the Built Environment certificate from Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health in collaboration with the U.S. Green Building Council. She will work from her home in suburban Boston and can be reached at mroberts@nrmca.org.

Mr. Matsche comes to NRMCA from a career mainly focused on selling building maintenance services and real estate investments. Based in San Francisco, he is a building operations expert with over 25 years of experience providing sustainable and economical building practices to clients. In his new role at NRMCA, he will integrate teams of architects, engineers and contractors to offer durable, energy efficient and economical concrete solutions that meet the needs of both building developers and their tenants.

Mr. Matsche has been an operator and advocate of sustainable development, sustainable physical plant operations and green buildings for over 30 years. Having spent 25 years as a project manager and providing consultation services with exposure to thousands of buildings throughout the Western U.S., Mr. Matsche has worked with developers, general contractors, commercial property owners and their management teams optimizing sustainable environmental performance. He has also been active in leadership roles with a wide variety of trade and philanthropic organizations, including the Building Owners and Managers Association, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce along with the U.S. Green Building Council since 2003. He can be reached at pmatsche@nrmca.org.

“The addition of Michelle and Patrick to the Build with Strength team will help NRMCA ensure the benefits of concrete are incorporated into building projects,” said NRMCA President Robert Garbini. “Building owners and developers are placing more emphasis on life-cycle cost, resiliency and energy efficiency as ways to provide safe and economical projects for their tenants, and concrete building systems help them achieve these objectives.”

NRMCA is concluding its 86th year of representing the producers of ready mixed concrete and the companies that provide materials, equipment and support to the industry. It conducts education, training, promotion, research, engineering, safety, environmental, technological, lobbying and regulatory programs. Learn more at www.nrmca.org.

Build with Strength is a coalition of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association that educates the building and design communities and policymakers on the benefits of ready mixed concrete and encourages its use as the building material of choice for low- to mid-rise structures.
