NRMCA recognizes the need for educating students on the proper way to design and construct buildings and pavements with concrete materials. In order to assist college professors in delivering state-of-the-art content to students, NRMCA is offering complimentary registration to college professors along with PowerPoint presentations, notes and some handout materials.* Click here for registration information.

*NRMCA provides handout materials for which it owns copyright. Other handout material that is not owned by NRMCA would need to be purchased by students or professors for use in course work. Although NRMCA prefers that professors attend these online courses and Webinars, we will distribute course materials by request.

Onsite Courses

  • Concrete 101 (Module 1)

This course is designed to provide a general, background knowledge of concrete. The course is broken down into 6 sessions which will cover the following topics: fundamentals of concrete, component materials of concrete, proportioning concrete basics, pre-placement conference, batching, mixing and delivery, handling, placing and finishing and curing concrete, and basic concrete troubleshooting.

Online Courses

  • Building Green with Concrete

This course provides details of concrete building systems and pavements, including design methodologies and construction techniques to minimize environmental impact. This course also helps attendees design and write project specifications for sustainable concrete building and pavement systems.

  • Design of Concrete Pavements

This course provides detailed instruction on how to design and build concrete streets and parking lots. It provides details of pavement design including traffic loads and pavement stresses. In addition to the detailed designs, this seminar will provide introductions to innovative products such as pervious concrete, concrete overlays and roller compacted concrete.

  • Life Cycle Assessment of Concrete Structures

Building owners are demanding more efficient and environmentally friendly projects and products. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is increasingly being used to evaluate structures and building products for environmental performance. This course provides detailed instruction on how LCA can be used to assess the environmental performance of concrete structures, including buildings and pavements. A review of new and existing research comparing the environmental life cycle performance of concrete and competing building materials will be presented.

  • Pervious Concrete: a Stormwater Solution

This program provides detailed instruction on how to implement pervious concrete pavements as a solution to reducing stormwater runoff from building sites and other paved areas. Attendees will learn the details of pervious concrete pavement systems, engineering properties and construction techniques.

Webinars

  • Concrete Overlays for Streets & Local Roads & Parking Lots

Concrete overlays of existing asphalt concrete streets and parking lots are exceptional methods for restoring structural capacity and ride quality. In this webinar, the participant will understand how to assess existing pavements, be introduced to the design methods available, and the materials and construction specifications needed for a successful project.

  • Concrete Pavement Jointing Plans

Achieving a properly designed and constructed concrete pavement does not stop at a thickness design. Jointing concrete pavements correctly is a crucial element that is often overlooked. Attendees of this webinar will gain the necessary knowledge to prepare a well designed jointing plan. Some of the topics that will be discussed are why joint concrete pavements? Types of joints, jointing guidelines, sealing and reinforcing.

  • Controlling Moisture in Concrete Slabs

Proper curing and drying of concrete slabs are sometimes neglected in a fast paced construction schedule. This webinar will provide technical guidance on concrete floors and moisture. Topics to be discussed include sources, examples and potential effects of moisture, concrete drying, moisture and pH testing, floor coverings and vapor retarders and barriers.

  • RCC: Intro to Design and Construction

Roller compacted concrete has typically been used in high load and volume environments where quick construction and long durability are needed. This seminar covers the basic material properties of RCC, how to design and construct, and points out key production and construction items to ensure a successful project.

  • Soils 101

One of the most important factors in pavement design is understanding the soil conditions at a project site and their effect on long term performance. This seminar will identify methods for investigating soil conditions, how to quantify strength for pavement design, and methods for properly preparing soils for paving.
