Sustainable Concrete Plant Guidelines

NRMCA is currently developing a Sustainable Concrete Plant Rating System through the generous support of the RMC Research & Education Foundation. The Sustainable Concrete Plant Rating System is a critical component of the NRMCA Sustainability Initiatives. An important step in developing the Rating System is to develop a set of Guidelines to establish what constitutes a sustainable concrete plant.

The purpose of the Sustainable Concrete Plant Guidelines is twofold: first, the Guidelines provide detailed guidance on how ready mixed concrete plants can meet the performance goals outlined in the NRMCA Sustainability Initiatives; and second, the Guidelines provide the ready mixed concrete industry a methodology for defining what constitutes sustainable plant operations. The Guidelines therefore give ready mixed concrete plants the ability to quantify, assess, and improve the sustainability of their operations over time. The Guidelines are currently in their second draft and NRMCA is seeking comments from members and other interested parties.

How to Participate in this Program

This 100% DRAFT 2, dated January 20, 2010, is the second opportunity for ready mixed concrete industry stakeholders to review the complete sustainable concrete plant guidelines and provide comments. RMC Research & Education Foundation encourages readers to provide comments. Comments are due to Lionel Lemay of NRMCA, LLemay@nrmca.org, 847-918-7101, by February 26, 2010. Once comments are received, they will be evaluated and incorporated into the guidelines where appropriate. The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association intends to conduct a pilot program with NRMCA member company plants starting in April of 2010. Anyone interested in participating in the pilot program should contact Lionel Lemay of NRMCA before April 1, 2010.
