Colorado
–
On
Friday, April 30, the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association sponsored the
first “Concrete Day at the Capital,” as declared by a proclamation from
Colorado’s Governor Ritter. More than 425 legislators and staff were fed a
complete barbeque lunch grilled on site. While eating, diners were provided with
industry literature and information regarding the importance of the concrete
industry to Colorado’s economy. CRMCA Executive Director Bernie Cawley said, “we
had planned for 250 participants and had to make two additional food runs. Over
425 on a marginal weather day was an excellent problem to have.” Co-sponsors
included the American Concrete Paving Association–Colorado/Wyoming Chapter and
the Portland Cement Association–Rocky Mountain Cement Council. The purpose of
this event was to recognize the hard work of the Colorado Legislature and its
staffs during one of the most difficult economic periods in Colorado history. A
secondary purpose was to raise the awareness of the importance of the concrete
industry to the state of Colorado’s economic growth. Based off the success of
this first attempt, the decision has already been made to make this an annual
event.
