NRMCA
Concrete Sustainability Professional Certification
The goal of this
certification program is to ensure that concrete industry professionals
are knowledgeable on concepts of sustainable development and green
building practices.
Three levels of
certification are available from NRMCA:

NRMCA Certified Concrete Sustainability Specialist
-
NRMCA Certified Concrete Green Building Specialist
-
NRMCA Certified Concrete Sustainability Expert
These certifications provide
an excellent groundwork for LEED Green
Associate accreditation, offered by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
NRMCA Certified
Concrete Sustainability Specialist
A NRMCA Certified
Concrete Sustainability Specialist is a person who demonstrates basic
knowledge of sustainable development principles, green building rating
systems, global warming and carbon footprint, and marketing the green
building movement. They will demonstrate knowledge of how concrete
contributes to the LEED Green Building Rating System.
This
certification requires the following basic knowledge:

Basic knowledge of
sustainability principles

Basic knowledge of green
building practices
-
The environmental
attributes of concrete
-
Concrete's contribution
to LEED Green Building Rating Systems
-
Strategies for promoting
sustainable development
Requirements for Certified Concrete Sustainability Specialist:
Pass the NRMCA Concrete
Sustainability Specialist certification examination with a score of 80%
or greater. NRMCA provides a course and certification program titled
Concrete's Role in Sustainable Development that presents background
knowledge required to pass the Certified Concrete Sustainability
Specialist certification exam.

NRMCA Certified
Concrete Green Building Specialist
An NRMCA Concrete
Certified Green Building Specialist is a person who demonstrates
extensive knowledge of green building rating systems, global warming
and carbon footprint, thermal mass and passive solar design, low impact
development, stormwater management and recycled materials. The certified
person not only demonstrates knowledge of how concrete contributes to
green building but more generally how the built environment can be
designed and built to minimize environmental impact.
This
certification requires the following extensive knowledge:

The LEED Green Building
Rating System
-
Energy benefits of
concrete construction
-
Thermal mass and passive
solar design
-
Low impact development
and stormwater management
-
Recycled materials
Requirements for NRMCA Concrete Green Building Specialist Certification:
Pass the NRMCA Concrete
Green Building Specialist Certification written examination with a score
of 80% or greater. NRMCA provides a course and certification program
titled Building Green with Concrete that presents background
knowledge required to pass the NRMCA Certified Green Building Specialist
certification exam.

materials. The certified person not only demonstrates knowledge of how
concrete contributes to sustainable development and green building but
more generally how the built environment can be designed and built to
minimize environmental impact.

Requirements for NRMCA Certified Concrete Sustainability Expert:

Possess a current NRMCA
Concrete Sustainability Specialist certification.

Possess a current NRMCA
Concrete Green Building Specialist certification.
LEED Green Associate
The Certified Concrete Sustainability Professional certifications
provide excellent groundwork and training in preparation for the LEED
Green Associate (GA) exam. NRMCA encourage concrete industry
professionals to become LEED Green Associates. This accreditation is
offered by the United States Green Building Council. The accreditation
is offered to persons who demonstrate extensive knowledge of the LEED
Green Building Rating Systems. The knowledge required to obtain LEED GA
is not concrete specific but requires a much broader knowledge of green
building and sustainable development principles and practices.
NRMCA offers a study
course from time to time to prepare candidates for the LEED GA exam.
